A test combining multiplex-PCR with pooled antibiotic susceptibility testing has high correlation with expanded urine culture for detection of live bacteria in urine samples of suspected UTI patients
Organisms identified by M-PCR were found to be viable, as indicated by the ability of the microbes to grow under EQUC conditions with high concordance, while SUC missed numerous known uropathogens identified by both M-PCR and EQUC. M-PCR should be considered in symptomatic UTI cases, especially in settings with complicated or higher risk patients where rapid and accurate results are essential to appropriate management.
