Does M-PCR identify organisms more accurately than culture in patients symptomatic of a UTI?
This study was designed to further compare the performance of Multiplex-Polymerase Chain Reaction (M-PCR) relative to Standard Urine Culture (SUC) in the urology practice. The study included over 2,500 elderly patients presenting with symptoms of lower urinary tract infections from 37 different locations in the United States. The study showed that M-PCR has the ability to detect bacteria that SUC misses, most notability Gram-positive bacteria and those that are found in polymicrobial infections.
